Cupcake Safe Hack

Dilemma: How to get cupcakes to playgroup without getting icing everywhere or spending a lot of money on a cupcake safe.
Solution: Turn a re-usable plastic container upside down. Use the lid as a tray and the container as the top. Instant cupcake transportation!
My friend Michelle clued us in to this great idea but warned, "Make sure your toddler doesn't grab the container and flip it over yelling, "MOM! You put this upside down!!" or you'll have a huge mess!"

**EDITED** I've received a couple of comments and emails about how this is any different from putting the cupcakes into the container and putting the lid on. Have you ever tried putting cupcakes down into a container? Icing gets on everything! Putting cupcakes on the lid and then setting the container down over them keeps the icing where it belongs, on the cupcake, and leaves much more to get into my belly!

  2. That is a great idea for sure! And I bought a bulky cupcake thingy that I later sold at a garage sale for next to nothing! AHHH!

  6. Oh, yeah! Whenever I bring a sandwich in my lunch, I turn the sandwich box upside down so the lid becomes a plate!

  7. Such a simple idea and yet so powerful and inexpensive. I love the idea. My twins' birthday is coming up in less than 2 weeks and this will be a useful tip.

  9. I do that. And my kid has flipped the container over. Twice. Great post.

  10. Great idea, but how do you keep them from moving side to side?

  11. Hehe, I love that you took the picture. To answer Ashley, I think I'd say that you need to make sure you have lots and lots of cupcakes. The more, the merrier! :)

  14. Assuming that we have the same container and the same number of cupcakes, how is this different than putting them the other way around? am I missing something???

  15. If you are missing something then so am I!

  16. You could use packing tape to create a handle, to show your kids which was the top. It would be perfect, but it may get the point across. Just say, "if you need to move it, pick it up by the handle."

    Great idea, BTW. :)

  17. great idea! this is much easier than putting the cupcakes inside the container. not only is it tough putting the cupcakes in, but even harder to take them out without making a mess.

  20. I made cupcakes for a party yesterday and I stored them in a deep gift box that a baby gift had been in. It was perfect for keeping the cupcakes- 15 fit inside and they would have been easily transported also, as they did not shift around. The box was deep enough that the frosting washed squashed.
