SO FUN!!
There were all kinds of tables set up with fun and educational activities.
The kids learned about how a water tower works (they ask me about this all the time).

They put their hands in boxes and tried to guess what was inside (a turtle shell and the skeleton of some little rodent - gross).

We walked over to the dam and looked at the water far down below (I didn't take a picture of the reservoir side).

I'm not sure what this tossing yard game had to do with nature and conservancy, but it was fun.

This guy showed them how the filtration system works at the water treatment facility. It was pretty interesting to see him pour a cup of dirty water into a huge beaker of dirt and have it come out clear from the bottom. The glass tube was at least three feet tall and you could clearly see the layers of smaller and smaller dirt/gravel/sand that filtered out the impurities. Clearly, this was my favorite... which is why I didn't get a picture of his demonstration. I was too busy paying attention!

They also painted some egg carton caterpillars.

Finally the sun started to set and the Boy Scouts lit the bonfire. There must have been 200 people toasting marshmallows and waving large chunks of flaming, melting sugar through the air. I'm shocked that no one got hurt!

We all enjoyed our s'mores and I really enjoyed going back for seconds.

fabulous pictures! sounds like so much fun!
ReplyDeleteIs that a dam that fronts to a major north-south corridor? (trying to ask that in seriousness but not reveal too much about your location.) VERY cool, wherever it is!
ReplyDeleteI was completely shocked that nobody at our church retreat got hurt - the fire was so big that the kids tied their marshmallow-pokers onto 6 foot bamboo poles. Seriously scary!
